I think physically that isn't possible... fossil fuel is too inefficient and people have vehicle needs that are too diverse. A 100 mph car would have to be small... useless in any place that experiences real winter.
I'd say that's fearmongering at its best...... the carbon reduction through using less fossil fuel is still better than the little extra heat by dark panels in the desert.....of course assuming they use solar panels vs a focused mirrored solar array to boil water which makes waaaaaaaay more...
When Apple actually has a design, factory, etc 5 years from now, this is worth discussing. until then its meaningless to Tesla and hopefully the industry will have several more established players.
what am I willing to do to stop the fact of global warming? I'll buy an EV to start and I don't care what that does to fossil fuel jobs.... they'll be hired into renewable industries eventually. the environment is more important than profit. I'm prepared to significantly change my lifestyle...
sometimes purposeful ignorance....ie it challenges what they think or their place in the world..... sometimes not very observant...... and then there are other less polite reasons.

that would depend on if all your needs are met by the state....if you wanted for nothing ie food clothing shelter medical and you wouldn't for life would you really care? The US paranoia of having the state care for you being a bad thing is based on on having a large enough uneducated populace...
when people use less, there will be less investment in new sources so supply will fall, driving prices up. Prices will also rise as the oil industry tries to recoup $ out of a dying business model.
